Abbott Northwestern Hospital

Abbott Northwestern Hospital is the largest hospital in the Minneapolis - St. Paul metropolitan area. While the hospital serves the primary care needs of the surrounding community, the majority of the patients come from around the state seeking tertiary referral services in a wide variety of specialties. The cardiovascular program is recognized as one of the top ten centers for cardiovascular care in the United States. Abbott Northwestern provides a full-scale cardiovascular program that includes prevention, early detection and treatment of heart diseases.

This site is a terrific resource for nutritional education as well as serving as the organization’s web site communicating to its members. Even if you are not a member, there is still a bountiful amount of great information free to the public.


American Heart Association

The official web site of the American Heart Association is an excellent resource for the public and healthcare professionals. It contains practical information about the prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke including the most up-to-date research on a whole host of heart and vascular related conditions.


American Society of Echocardiography

ASE is a professional organization for cardiovascular physicians. This Web site includes information for ASE members, as well as information on echocardiography for the public.


HeartInfo.org

HeartInfo.org is an independent, educational Web site that provides consumers with instructional information and services for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.


HeartScan Minnesota

HeartScan Minnesota opened in September of 1999. This service was developed as a collaborative effort between physicians of the Minneapolis Heart Institute, Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Consulting Radiology Limited. This Web site provides information about a new generation of CT scanner - Advanced CT - to view traces of calcium in your heart. This build-up of calcium helps determine your future risk of having a heart attack.


Holistic Heart Health

This Web site provides comprehensive, current information focused extensively on improving heart health through the use of a holistic approach coupled with traditional medicine. All of the information presented on Holistic Heart Health's Web site is researched and developed by a board of experienced, practicing physicians.


Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association

The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association was formed in 1996 to provide information, support and advocacy to patients, their families and medical providers. Because it is always helpful to be able to discuss one’s medical condition with others who have the same condition, The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association, offers an online message board to post notes and questions regarding your HCM experiences and concerns.

Medformation.com is a service of Allina Hospitals & Clinics. This Web site offers a wealth of health information as well as a variety of health care Web links, and health news for the Minnesota area.


Mended Hearts, Inc.

Mended Hearts is a national nonprofit organization that is affiliated with the American Heart Association. Partnering with hospitals and rehabilitation clinics, this organization offers services to heart patients such as support group meetings, visiting programs and educational forums.


Minneapolis Heart Institute FoundationMinneapolis Heart Institute Foundation

The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation was established in 1982 by physician members of the Minneapolis Heart Institute, Abbott Northwestern Hospital and community and state leaders within Minnesota. The Foundation seeks to improve cardiovascular health through education and clinical research. Their website includes valuable information about cardiovascular disease and its prevention. Heart risk can also be assessed through an interactive questionnaire. Kids can also have fun with interactive questions and answers about heart disease.


National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is one of many “Institutes” that make up the National Institutes of Health. This site contains a whole host of resources providing the latest information on heart related conditions.

The NIH Health Information page provides access to the NIH consumer health information resources including publications, clearinghouses, and databases.


National Library of Medicine

This is a gateway site to help consumers find health and human services information quickly. Using Medline, the world’s most extensive collection of published medical information, topics are organized by subject and can be easily retrieved. Originally designed for health professionals and researchers., Medline is also ideal for students and those seeking more specific or technical information about health conditions and treatment. Once a fee-based service, Medline is now free. PubMed provides direct web links between Medline abstracts and the publishers of the original full-text articles.


New England Journal of Medicine

Each week, the New England Journal of Medicine presents major, previously unpublished research results, clinical findings, updates, and opinions. You may subscribe to the Journal and receive access to the complete text of the Journal Online, as well as to register and use the subscriber-only sections of the Journal’s Web site.


North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology

The Vascular Disease Foundation (VDF) is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to increasing awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and management of vascular disease.


WebMD

WebMD offers reliable health information written by the Cleveland Clinic. This site offers a free newsletter, an encyclopedia of drug information, as well as a function that allows you to search for doctors in your area.
