Fellowship Program

In 1998, the Minneapolis Heart Institute recognized a need for clinical cardiologists in metro and outstate Minnesota, and started a clinical cardiology training program. In 1999 we combined this program with the board certified training program at the University of Minnesota. This unique training program combines a traditional academic program with a high volume clinically oriented program. Two fellows train at MHI at any given time. The exchange of ideas between the fellow trainees and MHI is beneficial to both sides and is crucial to keeping MHI on the cutting edge in cardiology. Many studies have shown that patients in academic type environments have improved care and outcomes and are more likely to receive recommended therapies. These research and teaching efforts - which are uncommon for a private-practice medical facility - stand as an example of how the Minneapolis Heart Institute and Abbott Northwestern Hospital are committed to a world-class experience for patients and families.
