The Effect Of Religion, Spirituality, And Outlook On Life In Patients With Severe Myocardial Ischemia
Study of:
Effect of spirituality on long-term outcome
The goal of this study is to determine the effects of religion, spirituality and outlook on life on the long-term outcome of patients with coronary artery disease and angina who are not candidates for bypass surgery or angioplasty. In particular, we will examine the role of religion, spirituality and outlook on life as a factor in the improvement that occurs in some patients treated with placebo.
Patients enrolled in this study will answer several brief questionnaires about their health status, religious beliefs and practice, quality of life, spirituality and outlook on life. They will be contacted for follow-up information.
Information from this study will provide insights that will help in planning the design of studies of new treatments for this increasingly large patient group as well as insights into the mechanism of the placebo effect.
