PEECH: Prospective Evaluation of EECP in Congestive Heart Failure
Study of:
Prospective Evaluation of EECP in Congestive Heart Failure
EECP is currently used and cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of patients with angina pectoris, heart failure, and some other uses. At this point, we lack data to determine with certainty that EECP helps patients with heart failure. We know that EECP treatment may improve the heart function of angina patients who had symptoms of heart failure, including shortness of breath, edema (swelling) and tiredness in addition to angina pain.
This study is being done to determine whether EECP can effectively improve heart function and the quality of life of patients diagnosed with heart failure. During this study, about 180 patients with heart failure will receive EECP in addition to their usual medical treatment. This group of patients will be compared with patients receiving only their usual medical treatment.
