Charisma Study
Study of: This prevention study is for patients who are at risk for stroke, heart attack or cardiovascular death due to risk factors and other health issues. The study compares the benefit of low-dose aspirin with clopidogrel (plavix) to low-dose aspirin with placebo in high-risk patients. Clopidogrel is a drug that has been approved by the FDA. A process called randomization (like flipping a coin) will be used to assign study volunteers into an arm of the study after study criteria is met. The study consists of clinic visits with assessments of physical condition and laboratory tests, along with telephone follow-up on a scheduled basis. This trial is anticipated to last 42 months.
