55 and Under Registry
Study of: This is the first evidence-based program for identifying and treating young patients with coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease. Since 1992, more than 4,000 patients have been enrolled in the registry. Demographic data and risk factor information are obtained when the patient is hospitalized with atherosclerosis at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. The patient receives a detailed report that will help identify and modify his or her risk for heart or vascular disease.
This program offers further risk factor evaluation 3 months after hospital discharge that includes lab work, a complete physical examination and a nutritional evaluation with a registered dietician. Annual follow-up is strongly recommended. The patient is encouraged to bring his or her spouse or significant other to these appointments as the program involves lifestyle changes.
The goal of this program is to work closely with the patient and his or her personal physician to identify and proactively treat modifiable risk factors to reduce the long-term risk for heart related problems. Novel diagnoses and treatments are offered through the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation’s 55 and Under Registry.
The information that is derived from the 55 and Under Registry will help assess the long-term benefit of risk factor modification and identify the best methods to accomplish successful risk factor reduction in this population at high risk for recurrent vascular events.
We are currently enrolling patients age 55 and under, with documented atherosclerosis (coronary artery disease), admitted to Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
