The HeartScan Minnesota Experience
Patients are asked to complete a risk assessment so that we have a little history about the patient and what (if anything) puts them at risk for cardiovascular disease. After the paperwork is processed, the patient is called back and, if applicable, a cholesterol test is done via finger poke and will be ready by the time the patient has completed their scan.
The patient is then brought into the scanning room. Once on the scan table, three electrodes are placed on the patient's chest. These leads are used to capture the heart rate that is needed to take the images. A blood pressure cuff is then placed on the ankle leg. The patient will need to hold their breath for 35 to 45 seconds while the images are being taken. After the images are taken, a blood pressure will be taken on both an ankle and an arm.
After the test, the results will be mailed to the patient and should be received in seven to 10 days. Based on a patient's score, the patient should then seek follow-up with their primary care physician or cardiologist.
