Home Care Following Pacemaker or ICD Implantation

  • No lifting more than 20 pounds or extensive reaching for two weeks.

  • No golfing for six weeks.

  • Avoid raising your arms above your head for at least 24 hours.

  • Carefully clean incision daily with antibacterial soap.

  • Avoid showering for 48 hours.

  • No tub bathing or swimming until your incision is completely healed.

  • No driving the day after the procedure.

  • Observe incision daily for signs and symptoms of infections such as redness, swelling or drainage, fever or chills. Report these symptoms to your doctor as soon as possible.

  • Make a follow-up appointment with your primary care doctor for an incision check in seven to 10 days.
     
  • Follow-up with the Pacemaker/ICD Clinic at MHI as directed.
